Here are a few quick videos showing how the milled wood panel has been abstracted into a layered translucent screen. The quality of the light is more dynamic, but the video quality is low and the light too varied to be believable. I’m waiting for a nice afternoon to re-shoot and re-post with sunlight. More soon.

Alex, I’m glad that you realized that layers could help you create interesting shadows. There is a bit of a Cabinet of Dr. Caligary aspect to these films – they have the same moody chiaroscuro and the second one features a slightly wobbly camera. Consider whether this these dramatic patterns are appropriate to the function of the space – they could be very unsettling. While I like the idea of the shadow linking to the cutouts, the actual effect is not really resonant. You need to make the place more like Stonehenge – so that magic alignment of the sun makes everything fall into place.
As your photos of the milled screen show that raking light is a way to dramatize the carved planes, you could consider using slanted planes on the interior of the box.
Glad to see you were able to create such atmospheric videos. If you cut the first five seconds of each clip or add a title overlay, they would be more accessible.
